Residents of Gorgan in the north were startled September 18 as chunks of metal came out of the sky and pelted the city as if it were under attack. The Defense Ministry acknowledged the debris came from an Iranian drone that had malfunctioned. Initial reports said eight weapons had come down on the city. But the Defense Ministry said it was just eight parts of the same drone that was being tested in the desert near Gorgan. The fact that there were eight widely scattered pieces, suggested the drone had exploded and not just malfunctioned. Two civilians were reported injured.
