One of Iran’s most-noted female film dubbers has died at the age of 90 in Karaj. Rafat Hashempur (photo) was best known for dubbing the role of Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in the 1939 film “Gone With the Wind.” Iran adopted dubbing, as opposed to subtitles, in the 1930s because of widespread illiteracy and developed one of the best dubbing industries in the world, often using the same dubber exclusively for one actor.
