US jealous of what Iran has accomplished

President Rohani says the US cannot tolerate the fact that it was driven out of Iran by the 1979 revolution and has been dreaming for 41 years of returning to the country.

The president said the Islamic Revolution was a choice made by the public, and that America’s enmity toward the Iranian people is rooted in its fear of Islamic power and the revolution’s power.

“It is natural that the US cannot tolerate the Islamic Revolution, the victory of a great nation and the expulsion of American superpower from this land, and it is also natural that it [the US] has been dreaming about returning to this land every single night since 41 years ago,” Rohani said.

The Americans, he added, “know very well how important Iran is. They are well aware of the role Iran plays in the region and of the fact that Iran is one of the biggest powers — actually the biggest one — in the sensitive West Asian region. That is why America and Zionism have been acting as arch-enemies of Iran and its revolution from Day One.”

Rohani made the remarks while addressing a large crowd at Tehran’s Azadi Square on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

Rohani further hit out at the US for pushing ahead with its “maximum pressure” campaign of sanctions, saying they have failed to bring “the nation to its knees.”

Rohani praised the achievements of the country in the defense sector.  “Before the Islamic Revolution, 95 percent of our required arms were imported, while today all of our needed [equipment] is produced domestically,” he said.

Rohani’s analysis ignored the US war with Vietnam, where America suffered its worst defeat.  Yet, within a few years, the US and Vietnam became friendly–and remain so.
