The US Navy aircraft carrier Harry S Truman passed through the Suez Canal last Tuesday and is now operating near Iran. The US Navy had not had an aircraft carrier in the region since early October. It was one of the few times in the last few decades that the Navy left a gap in carrier coverage in the region. The ship’s main role now is launching airstrikes on Islamic State forces in Iraq and Syria.
