Inflation rose last month by both measures used by Iran, but the increase wasn’t much and is still shy of the 50 percent mark. Nonetheless, inflation rose in the first full month of the Raisi Administration, nothing for the government to crow about. The annual inflation rate, according to the Statistical Center of Iran, as compared with the same month in the last Persian year rose 0.5 percentage points to 43.7 percent as of September 22, the end of the month of Shahrivar. Measured as an average over the previous 12 months, the rate rose 0.6 percentage points to 45.8 percent. Both were modest hikes. But both were rising, not a good sign.
