Britain plans to send its military back “east of Suez” almost a half century after withdrawing. British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon told a press conference in Muscat that Britain is seeking a permanent base in Oman for both Army troops and the Royal Navy. Britain withdrew all its forces from the Persian Gulf in 1971, granting independence at that time to Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
