The United Arab Emirates has changed its laws to allow unmarried couples to cohabitate, to loosen alcohol restrictions, to decriminalize attempted suicide, to permit citizens to write their own wills without basing inheritance on Sharia law and to treat “honor killings” as ordinary murder.
