A UN resolution forbids the Islamic Republic to export any armaments.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu confirmed news reports saying the Turks had intercepted and seized a truckload of arms and had notified the United Nations.
It wasn’t known if the shipment was headed for the Syrian Army to help its suppression of uprisings all across Syria or was destined to go through Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Syria intercepted another shipment of Iranian arms bound for Syria in March. Those arms were found aboard a plane whose manifest said the shipment was auto parts. Further shipments have been seized in previous years.
Davutoglu didn’t say when the truckload of weapons was seized, but one Turkish newspaper said it happened 2 1/2 months ago.
