A Majlis deputy charges that France’s Total is dragging its feet and not embarking on a project in the South Pars gasfield.
Speaking to the Tasnim news agency, the deputy chair of the Majlis Energy Committee, Hedayatollah Khademi, expressed concern about Total’s lack of determination to fulfill the contract it signed with Iran, citing the French company’s delays in the past.
He also said Oil Minister Bijan Namdar-Zanganeh will be invited to the Majlis to explain the delay in the development of the 11th phase of the South Pars gasfield.
In early July, the Iranian Oil Ministry signed a $4.9 billion contract with France’s Total and China’s National Petroleum Company (CNPC) for the development of the 11th phase.
Total has a 50.1 percent share in the 20-year deal. The state-owned China National Petroleum Corp. has a 30 percent stake and Iran’s Petropars has 19.9 percent.
