Time for annual rant on Canada

December 31, 2021

Continuing its long anti-Canada campaign, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has publicly advised Canadian officials to halt what Iran calls a systemic policy of genocide against indigenous people and also admit responsibility for being accomplices in Zionist crimes against Palestinians.

The remarks were made December 2 in response to Canada’s sponsorship of a resolution in the UN criticizing Iran’s human rights conduct.  Canada has sponsored the resolution every year since 2004 in response to the beating death Zahra Kazemi, an Iranian-Canadian dual national who was arrested for taking photos outside Evin Prison and died days later.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh termed the Canadian resolution a repetition of baseless claims based on incorrect information and dishonest generalizations.

He asserted that most of the votes in favor of the draft resolution were being cast under political pressures and threats.

Khatibzadeh said Canada’s action was but one of many unethical and inexcusable moves that will not help gain respect for human rights or improve the situation worldwide, but will instead fan the flames of negative cliches and political labels.

He labeled the resolution a misuse of human rights to fulfill political motives.

He said the protection of human rights is one of the basic pillars of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the country has paid a lot to support the rights of people all around the world.
