“The Orion,” which is in Persian with English subtitles, is directed by Zamani Esmati. Jafar Panahi, who is currently imprisoned in Iran, contributed to the film as an editing consultant. The film tells the story of Elham, whose boyfriend is leaving her after taking her virginity. The film tells the story of an educated woman in a traditionally-structured Muslim society.
“Salve,” which is featured in Persian with English subtitles, is directed by Alireza Davoodnejad and stars Ehteram Habibian, Tanaz Tabatabaei, and Kobra Hasanzadeh, among others. Salve tells the story of a generation of children who are closer with their grandparents than their parents through the story of a girl who runs away from her family to be with a drug dealer.
“The Other Side” will be presented in Turkish with English subtitles and is directed by Esmaeel Monsef. The short film is about a young girl who receives letters that she thinks are from her finance, until she realizes they are from someone else.
“Digital Bomb,” by German Director Herrman Vaske, stars Tron Guy, Maria Angelica Figueredo and Hermann Vaske. The film, which is largely about social media and the digital age, features a segment on the Iranian diaspora and the role the Internet played in the 2009 presidential election in Iran.
“Cultures of Resistance,” directed by Iara Lee, is an American film explaining how rap music and graffiti have become the tools of populations—including Iran’s—used to fight against oppressive regimes.
