(left) and President Ahmadi-nejad Sunday turned on the spigot to let natural gas begin flowing from Turkmenistan into Iran over the last section of a new pipeline linking the two countries.
The pair opened the pipeline at Sarakhs, the border town in far northeastern Iran. Iran already imports about 20 million cubic meters of gas a day through a 13- year-old pipeline from Turkmenistan.
Iran says the new pipeline will double the supply of gas coming from Turkmenistan this winter.
