The easy route

January 03-2014

The Wall Street Journal has carried two Page One stories in recent weeks about an Arab contractor with a monster $8 billion contract to supply food and water to US troops in Afghanistan.  It seems this contractor started shipping those goods through Bandar Abbas and across Iran by land to Afghanistan.  That violates US sanctions and the Journal is wagging its finger over this frightful criminality.  But the Journal never asks the more important question: Why on earth did the Islamic Republic allow this practice to go on for months.  Was it so ignorant that it didn‘t know what was happening?  Was the contractor paying off some Iranians?  The contractor shipped the goods through Iran when Pakistan stopped allowing the shipments to transit Pakistan.
