Most attention has focused on Britain and Canada for closing their embassies in Tehran. But Ireland also closed its embassy in 2012. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Eamon Gilmore told parliament that Ireland could not afford the $700,000 a year it would cost to post a full-time ambassador in Tehran—though he said the government might reconsider when and if EU sanctions are lifted.
