KABOOM — This is what was left of the family home after a teenager tried to prepare some fireworks for use on Chaharshanbeh Souri.

Seven people in one family were killed in Ardebil Friday when a teenaged boy was trying to prepare fireworks for Chaharshanbeh Souri and blew up the family home instead.

Nasser Atabati, the prosecutor of Ardebil province, said the explosion killed the boy making the fireworks and six of his relatives while injuring four others, one of whom was in critical condition.

The explosion blew out some of the walls of the family home.

Every year on Chahar-shanbeh Souri, there are numerous injuries and usually some deaths.  Last year, three people were reported killed. The regime views with disdain the holiday, which centers on jumping over bonfires on the eve of the last Wednesday of the old year.
