Tahmooressi still far from freedom

October 10-14

TAHMOORESSI. . . still in jail

Contrary to recent rumors, Andrew Tahmooressi is not on the brink of being released from a Mexican prison, according to his lawyer.

According to Fernando Benitez, Tahmooressi’s defense attorney, the judge has yet to consider evidence entered into the record last week – which included testimony by psychiatrists on both sides who reportedly concur that Tahmooressi has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

News reports say both doctors also agree Tahmooressi needs to get care in the United States.

In spite of this, Tahmoor-essi’s lawyer said there are a lot of legal hurdles to be cleared. And while there’s a chance charges against Tahmooressi may be dropped, it’s not imminent, he said.

“The judge has to consider evidence, closing arguments have to be heard followed by another hearing and decision,” said Benitez.

Meantime, Montel Williams, the former talk-show host, is getting involved. He is urging Americans to help Tahmooressi by urging Congress to pass H. Res. 620, which urges Mexico to release Tahmooressi so he can get PTSD treatment north of the border.  The resolution is already co-sponsored by 81 of the 435 members of the House.
