the National Iranian Tanker Co. (NITC) recently renamed at least 10 of its 39 tankers and switched them to the Tanzanian flag, according to Equasis, an EU shipping database. Ownership was switched from NITC to new firms that have the same Tehran address. The ships previously flew the flags of Malta and Cyprus, EU member states. The International Energy Agency announced earlier this month that 25 NITC tankers are being used to store un-sold Iran oil, so it only has 14 tankers that can be used to carry crude to customers.
