The Judiciary says it has filed suits against “several” European companies that provided chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. It did not name the companies, say how many were being sued or identify the countries where they are located. But after years of asserting that European governments gave Iraq chemical weapons, it is now suing companies. Earlier investigations showed that Saddam got help from firms that sneaked the goods passed lame European export controls. About three-quarters of the chemical weapons manufacturing gear in Iraq came from German firms.
