The process began last January when President Ahmadi-nejad presented his budget including a plan for ending subsidies. A much-altered version finally became law last Wednesday when the Council of Guardians approved the modified bill. Ahmadi-nejad, never short for rhetoric, said the new law sets off the greatest economic change in Iran in 50 years.. With this economic reform, Iran will reach the pinnacle in 16 years and all its problems will be resolved, he said. “Iran will have not even a solitary impoverished or jobless citizen within three years.”
