The problem of subsidence has now come to northern Tehran as a Now Ruz eidi. On the morning of the first day of the new year, March 21, a 70-meter (230-foot) stretch of Shakibai Avenue, which links the center of the city to parts of the northern suburbs, collapsed, taking down several utility poles with it and knocking out power to many residences. The street fell into the Golabdare Canal, over which the street had been built, after a heavy rain. The subsidence problem in Tehran province is mainly south of center city and is considered a threat to Imam Khomeini Airport.-
