STILL FALLING

December 31, 2021

InflationDecThe inflation rate is continuing to fall for the third straight month, one economic bright spot for the Raisi Administration.  The average annual inflation rate for the Persian month of Aban, ending November 21, was 44.4 percent, a drop of one percentage point from the previous month.  The year-on-year rate—the more important rate to watch—was 35.7 percent, a substantial drop of 3.5 percentage points from the previous month.

Then in the month ending December 21, the 12-month average fell another 1 percentage point and the comparison with the same month of the previous year fell a half percentage point.  Compared to when Raisi  took office in August, inflation by the more important year-on-year rate has fallen eight full percentage points.  However, to put that in perspective, Iran still has the seventh highest inflation rate among all the 193 members of the UN.
