Inflation continued rising in the final month of the Persian year, but did not hit 50 percent for the year as had been widely expected. Compared to the same month in the previous year, the inflation rate as of Esfand, the final month of the year, was measured by the Statistical Center of Iran at 48.7 percent, up a mere half a percentage point from the previous month. Measured as a 12-month average, the inflation rate for the year was 36.4 percent, up a substantial 2.2 percentage points from the previous month. Those rates were far, far higher around double the 22 percent target for the year announced several months ago by the Central Bank.
