Quints are becoming almost routine in the Islamic Republic these days with sets born every other year or so. The latest set (above) was born Sunday August 11 in Mashhad to 29-year-old Zahra Fallah Hashemian. The Mehr Housing Program, which was started by President Ahmadi-nejad to provide housing for the poor, immediately announced that it is giving Mrs. Hashemian a house for her now vastly expanded family.
Her quints were born 12 weeks early but are reported in good health. Four are girls and one is a boy. The quints weighed in between 850 and 950 grams (1 lb 14 ozs and 2 lbs 1 1/2 ozs),
which is significantly less than the 2 lbs 12 ozs average birth weight in the United States. Below is an earlier set of quints, now nine years old and showing their prowess at reading a newspaper.
