The killer was hanged last Tuesday at the same spot where he knifed the woman.
The murderer was identified only by his first name, Kousha.
Such public hangings are normally reserved for especially egregious crimes where the state believes a public show will discourage others from committing the same act.
The daily Sharq quoted the killer as saying, “I fell in love with Mahsa the first time I saw her. I asked her to marry me, but she turned me down. When I found out she might leave the country after graduation, I got my knives and stabbed her.”
The Fars news agency said of the hanging, “Many people were at the scene to see the execution of justice.”
