Mehsa Ghorbani, an international referee for Iranian women’s soccer, has been removed from the roster of active international referees, according to the Canada-based IranWire. IranWire said a reliable source within the Iranian Football Federation told it the decision was made by security agents in order to bar her from leaving Iran. According to FIFA guidelines, only referees nominated by their respective national soccer federations are eligible to officiate in international competitions beyond their country’s borders.
