There are periodic speculative news stories about Iran and Turkey cozying up to one another, despite the fact that they support opposing sides in the fighting in Syria. Recently, Iran made its displeasure with Turkey manifest by summoning Turkey’s ambassador to Iran, Reza Hakan Takin (photo), to the Foreign Ministry for a dressing down. The Fars news agency then carried this comment from an unnamed source: “Following some recent unrealistic statements and stances by a number of senior Turkish officials to blame others over the developments in the region, Turkey’s Ambassador to Tehran Reza Hakan Takin has been summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in the last few days to be informed of Iran’s strong protest.”
