Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology is the only Iranian university appearing on The Times of London’s Higher Education Rankings for 2013-14.
SUT was listed as the 269th best university in the world and the 37th best in Asia.
The Times listed 400 universities around the world including 61 in Asia, but no other Iranian school made it on the list.
The top five universities in the world were named as Caltech, Oxford, Harvard, Stanford and MIT.
The top 20 schools comprise one Swiss, one Canadian, three British and 15 American universities.
The Iran Daily reported that The Times listed Tehran Medical University as 83rd in Asia and the Esfahan University of Technology as 85th in Asia. However, the published list carried only 61 Asian universities.
The introduction to the listing says it is “the only global university performance tables to judge world class universities across all of their core missions—teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The top universities rankings employ 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.”
