Ayatollah Mohammad Daneshzadeh Qomi-Momen (photo), one of the six clerical members of the Council of Guardians, passed away February 21 at the age of 81 after an illness of two months. He served there more than a third of a century, having been first appointed by Ayatollah Khomeini in 1984. He was also a member of the Assembly of Experts, the body that selects the Supreme Leader when that post becomes vacant, ever since the body was created after the revolution.
