The UN Security Council was told last Thursday that Iran has again violated UN sanctions against it by testing more missiles.
The chairman of the Iran sanctions committee, Ambassador Gary Quinlan of Australia, said “Iran’s launches of the Shahab 1 and 3 missiles, during the Great Prophet 7 exercise, or exercises, contravene Paragraph 9 of Resolution 1929.” That exercise was held in July 2012
Paragraph 9 states that Iran shall not undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches.
Quinlan said “a number of committee members continued to express the view, as confirmed by the panel of experts, that the launches constituted a clear violation of Resolution 1929, and that, therefore, all member states should redouble their efforts to implement ballistic missile related sanctions on Iran.”
UN Security Council Resolution 1929 was passed in June 2010, with 12 states voting for it, Brazil and Turkey voting against it and Lebanon abstaining.
