was one of the many roped in by the police for joining the post-election protests. But Mahtari said he was sexually assaulted in detention. His case was among the half-dozen that Mehdi Karrubi brought to public attention—and which the government brushed aside. Mahtari eventually fled Iran to France. Last week, according to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran (ICHRI), Mahtari was attacked on a Paris street by two men who stabbed him several times in the legs, arms and neck. They had just put a noose around his neck when a police siren startled them and they ran off. The screaming police car was actually on another pursuit, but Mahtari was soon found and taken to a hospital where he is recovering.
