The Fars news agency said Stone had chosen the new first name of Ali after undergoing a conversion ceremony in Esfahan on Tuesday.
In a telephone conversation with Agence France Presse, Stone appeared to qualify the conversion report and presented himself now as Muslim, Jewish and Christian. “The conversion to Islam is not abandoning Christianity or Judaism, which I was born with. It means I have accepted Mohammad and other prophets,” he said.
Stone’s famous father is Jewish and his mother is Christian.
The 27-year-old Stone has had minor roles in several of his father’s films and has directed documentaries in recent years. He is in Esfahan on such a project.
