After six years in which the goal of scrapping old, unsafe, polluting cars was itself rapped, the Majlis has now approved plans to resume the effort to get clunkers off the road. The director of the association of firms that crush old cars said they were now operating at only 10 percent of capacity because the government has failed to provide any funding to encourage people to junk their clunkers. In 2014-15, 320,000 cars were scrapped. Last year, the total was only 8,000, he said (which is a heck of a lot less than 10 percent).
