of one of Iran’s Russian-made submarines, the Russian magazine Defense and Security reported last week.
Iran announced earlier that it had done all the work itself with no help from Russia after the Russians refused to supply blueprints or spare parts for the submarine Tareq, which is 20 years old.
The magazine said a group of employees from the Zvez-dochka Shipyard in Severodinsk traveled to Bandar Abbas in 2006 to start the work. It said the workmen overhauled many parts of the submarine including the main power plant and communications systems.
Two weeks ago, Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, commander of the Islamic Republic Navy, said Iran did every bit of the overhaul work on its own with no aid from Russia. (See Iran Times of June 8, page three.)
