Last year’s GOP presidential nominee, Mitt Romney (photo), says the United States should be very wary of Iran and its promises. In a rare interview since losing one year ago, Romney said, “You have to be skeptical when people say, ‘We’re just looking for nuclear power,’ and their nation is on a lake of oil.” He did not oppose talks with Iran and, in fact, encouraged them and appeared to support what President Obama is doing. The US should pursue a diplomatic opening with Iran, he said, “as aggressively as we can, but recognize again that there’s a great deal of skepticism with regard to Iran’s intentions, in part because of their energy wealth and the likelihood that what they’re trying to do is become the superpower in the Middle East, with dire consequences for the nations in the region.”
