President Rohani has promised a “slogan-free” foreign policy. At the swearing-in of his new foreign minister Saturday, Rohani said, “Foreign policy is not carried out by repeating slogans.”
He said his election meant the public wanted a new and more rational foreign policy.
Rohani said that revising foreign policy did not mean “a change in principles,” but that there must be “a change in methods.”
He said the national interests of the country would be defended, but that must be done “appropriately, precisely and rationally.”
In a nod to the impact of sanctions, Rohani said foreign policy was “key to solving our current problems.”
