During his UN speech in September, President Rohani proposed that all nations join in what he called his initiative for a World Against Violence and Extremism, a title chosen for its English acronym, WAVE. Last Thursday, the day after the UN General Assembly condemned Iran’s human rights record, it approved a resolution endorsing WAVE. You might say it made waves. The state news agency said that “all member states cast positive votes for the resolution and no country opposed it.” Actually, there was no vote. As the proposal was non-controversial, it was just accepted by consensus.
