Inflation continues roaring in high gear, passing the 50 percent mark last month and hitting 51.4 percent compared with the same month a year earlier. This is the highest rate recorded under the Islamic Republic. The Statistical Center of Iran also reports the inflation rate as an average over the preceding 12 months. By that measure—which routinely trails the year-on-year statistic—inflation amounted to 30.6 percent in the last Persian year. The highest price hikes over the last 12 months were recorded for onions, up 460 percent, tomato paste, up 235 percent, and potatoes, up 208 percent. The food item with the least appreciation was eggs, up 12 percent.
