Road Deaths Rise

October 25, 2024

Iran’s great success in lowering the scale of traffic deaths has ended. After almost two decades of steady decline, traffic fatalities began to rise in 2020 and are still going up, presumably because of the growing number of cars on the roads. From a high of 28,000 two decades ago, the number of traffic deaths fell to 16,000 in 2020 but have risen since then to 20,000 in 2023, the daily Etemad reports. According to the World Health Organization, Iran’s death rate for traffic deaths in 2020 ranked it 65th among 183 nations reporting.
