Because of the currency crisis, the Iranian Wrestling Federation has canceled its participation in most international wrestling events over the next few months.
The federation said the hike in the dollar exchange rate has resulted in such high air travel costs and overseas expenses that it can’t afford to send many wrestlers abroad.
The team will make it to the World Wrestling Championships in Budapest in late October and went to the Medved Tournament in Belarus September 14-16.
But the federation has canceled its presence in the Stepan Sargsyan Cup in Armenia, September 7-8 and the Ljubomir Ivanovic Gedza Memorial in Serbia, September 28-29, as well as the Alysh (belt wrestling) team in the World Nomadic Games in Kyrgyzstan.
