Hamed Haddadi, the only Iranian ever to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA), announced his retirement from professional basketball after playing with the national basketball team as it was eliminated September 2 from this year’s World Cup after five straight losses. He is 38 years old. He came to the US in 2008 to play center with the Memphis Grizzlies but did not get much playing time. He finished his US career with the Phoenix Suns and left the US in 2013. In recent years, he has played professionally mainly in China.
