Regime complains of trial

October 18-2013

The Iranian embassy in Azerbaijan denied as groundless espionage charges filed against an Iranian living there.  Bahram Fayyazi has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.  The embassy complained that Fayyazi was not allowed to have a lawyer in court and that the Iranian embassy was not permitted to have a representative in court, as provided for in international law.  Of course, Iran has rarely allowed foreign embassies to have representatives in Iranian courts when their nationals are on trial.
