Red meat goes unsold

The public has largely stopped eating red meat and the country is now facing “an acute oversupply,” according to the state’s Livestock Supply Council.  It said production and imports in the just-ended year had totaled 950,000 tons, but only 650,000 tons or two-thirds of that was consumed.  It didn’t give a reason, but soaring prices have driven down consumption of many non-essential foods.
