The US Army general who led the failed 1980 commando raid designed to rescue the US hostages held in Iran has died at the age of 86. Lt. Gen. James B. Vaught (photo) drowned, apparently after falling out of his small boat near his South Carolina home. An autopsy also showed signs of cardiac disease.
