A number of American news outlets have quoted Adm. Ali-Reza Tangsiri, commander of the Pasdar maritime arm, as threatening the West that Iran might close the Strait of Hormuz and not allow oil exports from Arab oil producers. Actually, this is what he said: “If we want, we could close this waterway. But we will not do that because, as long as we use this waterway, our neighbors should be able to use it as well.”
