Queiroz left Iran August 29 when his visa expired and was expected back within days to wrap up negotiations for renewal of his contract for another four years to take him through the next World Cup.
But the news reports indicate that may now have changed as Leeds coach David Hockaday was fired after just six games—and four losses—in the new season.
The reports say Queiroz and caretaker coach Neil Redfearn are the two men under consideration by Leeds United to take over.
Leeds has had nine coaches in 10 years since it was relegated from the Premier League to the next lower level in 2004.
Queiroz is well-known in England where he spent several years as the assistant coach at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, generally viewed as the best coach in soccer history. Ferguson raves about Queiroz’s skills in his autobiography.
Queiroz would presumably want to keep Iran on the warming bench until he knows whether or not he will get the Leeds posting.
