A Majlis deputy says the almost continuous sand and dust storms raging across Khuzestan province have prompted a major migration by residents moving out of the province to other parts of the country.
Sand and dust storms in the province have provoked a mass exodus to other provinces, said Javad Kazemi-Nasab, who represents Khuzestan in the Majlis. However, he had no statistics to offer.
Those Khuzestani citizens who can afford to live in other provinces are already leaving the region and those who cannot are facing health problems, the Iran Labor News Agency (ILNA) quoted him as saying April 29.
He said the most negative consequences of sand and dust storms in Khuzestan Province are the migration of elites, a fall in investment and health problems.
Many university professors and schoolteachers have migrated from the province, which has affected the quality of education in the province, he said.
