Soumya Swaminathan (photo), 29, a senior Indian women’s chess player, has pulled out of the Asian Nations Chess Cup, being played next month in Hamadan, to protest the dress code the sponsors say will enforce. In 2016, US chess champion Nazi Paikidze-Barnes boycotted the world championships in Tehran for the same reason.
