Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi announced November 14 that he was ready to assume temporary leadership of a post-revolutionary regime, the first time he has made an outright bid for power.
“Global and regional developments have presented us with a new opportunity to reclaim and save our beloved Iran,” Pahlavi said in a brief video message posted on X. “At your call, I am ready to guide this change and lead the transitional period.” He spoke only about being a transitional figure and he made no reference to how the current regime would be toppled.
“My ability stems from your strength,” he said, adding that he was dedicated to “establishing a national government in Iran and garnering maximum global support to achieve it.” The prince and his wife have lived just outside Washington, DC, since the revolution.
