President Masoud Pezeshkian, who was a heart surgeon before his election as president, donned his surgical gown again and operated on two patients May 22 during a visit to his hometown of Tabriz.
Some critics started a rumor that one of the patients he operated on had died. But the Shahid Madani Hospital made two very happy patients available to the media as they reported they were very much alive and feeling much better since their surgery.
Nazila Ali-Mohammadi said she was doing well and eagerly awaiting a transfer from intensive care back to a ward.
Murad Bidargar sat up in his bed and said he was surprised to learn he was being operated on by the president.
The daily Hamshahri reported that it got the news of the deceased patient from Majlis Deputy Majid Nasirpour of Sarab. But the newspaper later reported that Nasirpour’s office had told the daily that Nasirpour is currently on the hajj in Saudi Arabia and had not said anything about Pezeshkian’s surgery.
