Ahmadi-nejad spoke at length about Obama in his first news conference of the new year Monday. His repeated theme was that Obama does little more than insult Iranians, although the policy of the three last administrations since then mid-1990s has been to always distinguish between the Iranian people and the Iranian government.
The Clinton, Bush and Obama Administrations have all made a point of repeatedly praising the Iranian people, Iranian culture and Iranian history before and after flaying the Iranian regime.
But Ahmadi-nejad just pretended those 15 years of American remarks never existed and told the Iranian people, as he is often does, that the United States doesn’t like them. The intent has obviously been to foment hatred for the United States 
rather than to ease tensions.
Ahmadi-nejad criticized Obama, saying he simply acts in line with the wishes of those powerful forces behind the scene who actually run America, pursuing a theme that the Soiet Union used for decades.
“One feels sorry, as if there is no wisdom at the other end,” Ahmadi-nejad said of Obama in particular and America in general. “They have not a clue as to what is happening. They think if they insult the Iranian people, other nations will like them for it.
“Some people may disagree with me, but certainly, no Iranian agrees with the American government. We have our own domestic issues. They come and insult the Iranian people and the government of Iran, which has been voted in by the Iranian public, thinking this behavior will improve matters for them….They do not understand that this behavior will bring their demise closer, as it already has.
“The only hope for the American government is to mend its relations with Iran so it will have a chance to survive. We gave that government an opportunity. But they did not take advantage of it because they have no will of their own. They have to find out first what the orders of the heads of the Zionist regime are, and then act upon them.”
Asked about the possibility of resuming diplomatic ties with the US, Ahmadi-nejad said: “There are opportunities, but they [US officials] are missing them. This is because they cannot make decisions independently. But we are independent. We announce that we are ready to establish relations under just and respectful conditions.”
